Here in the UK we all pay a national insurance stamp which of course is tax under another name, I think its about 9% of income over your tax allowence, this covers the National health service and Pensions well thats what we are told anyway.
Our system is far from perfect but I have to say I have had 3 daughters all of which were born in hospital, the care we got was fantastic, when my first girl was born there were some complications so we had 9 professional health care workers in our room including a surgeon a pediatrician two midwives and a bunch of others (possibly perverts but i didnt care at the time)
all this and no bill to pay.
My Mum has been in hospital for a month and has had the best care and there will be no bill.
I think the right to health treatment in a civilized country should be expected and demanded by the people. It's not free for most of us because we pay tax for this but it is free for the ones who cannot afford to pay for themselves, the old the disabled and the very young.
To me it's a no brainer if we arent willing to help those who can't help themselves in our society then we have no right to call ourselves civilized

It's $750 FINE plus a chance of going to jail if you don't get health ins. I have none...I can't afford 350+ a month for major med just for myself. In this economy I am having a hard enuff time just paying the bills I have now.

Yeah, with the new bill you will either have to purchase the gov health care or private health care. Don't buy one or the other and you'll get fined.

The New York Times today had an article on how some states, like Florida, will be fighting to keep the feds from getting reform.
